Relebohile Mofokeng Confident Orlando Pirates Can Maintain Betway Premiership Lead After 3-0 Win
Relebohile Mofokeng believes his club, Orlando Pirates, is in a strong position to maintain its current standing in the Betway Premiership following a commanding 3–0 victory over Marumo Gallants over the weekend.
The 21-year-old midfielder and winger acknowledged the importance of securing three points. Still, they emphasized that consistency and continued improvement will be key if the Pirates are to sustain their momentum in the title race.
“I think we are doing great; we have six points clear now and are going to the next game. We have to improve; we have to do our best so that we keep on staying there,” Mofokeng said while speaking to the media.
The win at a packed Orlando Stadium in Soweto saw Pirates stretch their lead at the top of the table to six points ahead of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who were not in domestic action during the same weekend.
In a league campaign often decided by narrow margins, a six-point cushion can prove significant. However, the technical team and players appear focused on maintaining performance levels rather than becoming complacent.
Pirates’ tactical discipline and attacking fluidity against Marumo Gallants underlined their intent. The result also reinforces their position as early front-runners in what is shaping up to be a competitive 2026 title race.
For Mofokeng personally, the match marked another milestone in what has been a turnaround season. After struggling for rhythm and regular minutes earlier in the campaign, the young attacker delivered a confident display, earning the Man of the Match award.
He looked composed in possession, demanded the ball in advanced areas, and attacked defenders with direct intent. His performance not only contributed to the convincing scoreline but also placed him among the players with the most Man of the Match awards in South Africa’s top flight this season—drawing comparisons with standout performers across rival clubs.
His resurgence adds depth to the Pirates’ attacking options and provides tactical flexibility as fixtures intensify.
Despite the positive momentum, Mofokeng’s comments reflect a grounded approach. Pirates understand that sustaining a title challenge requires consistency across phases of the season—managing squad fitness, maintaining tactical sharpness, and delivering results both home and away.
With Mamelodi Sundowns expected to respond strongly in upcoming fixtures, the pressure remains high at the summit of the Betway Premiership standings.
For now, Orlando Pirates appear composed and confident—but as Mofokeng noted, improvement remains the priority if they are to stay there.
