Marcus Rashford’s Future Uncertain as Manchester United Hold Firm on Barcelona Transfer Fee

Marcus Rashford is reportedly keen on making his move to FC Barcelona permanent, but negotiations with Manchester United appear far from straightforward.

The English striker, currently on a season-long loan at Barcelona, has been linked with a permanent switch following an impressive spell in Spain. However, reports suggest United are unwilling to reduce their agreed valuation as discussions around the forward’s future intensify.

According to reports from Goal.com and the Daily Mail, Manchester United have no intention of renegotiating the previously discussed £26 million (€30m approx.) option-to-buy clause.

Speculation had emerged that Barcelona were exploring ways to lower the transfer fee, but sources close to United indicate the Premier League club considers the agreed figure fair and does not plan to revise it downward.

Rashford has not featured for United since December 2024 and reportedly lost his No.10 shirt to Matheus Cunha following managerial changes under Ruben Amorim earlier in the season.

Since joining Barcelona, Rashford has rediscovered form at Spotify Camp Nou. The forward has registered 10 goals and 13 assists in 34 appearances across competitions, becoming an important attacking option in Hansi Flick’s system.

Reports indicate Barcelona is currently covering Rashford’s full £315,000-per-week salary during the loan spell — a significant financial commitment that will test the club’s belief in his contribution.

Despite his positive impact, Flick has previously acknowledged that Rashford’s long-term future remains unresolved, pending final negotiations between the two clubs.

Multiple outlets, including Manchester Evening News, report that Rashford is open to staying in Spain permanently. However, any move will depend on whether Barcelona meets the agreed transfer terms.

For Manchester United, maintaining their valuation signals a broader strategy of financial discipline in the transfer market. For Barcelona, balancing squad planning with financial considerations remains an ongoing challenge.

Supporters have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to voice contrasting views. Some Manchester United fans expressed frustration, while Barcelona supporters encouraged Rashford to remain in La Liga.

The divide reflects a broader debate: whether Rashford’s resurgence abroad signals a long-term fit in Spain or whether circumstances could yet bring him back to Old Trafford.

With the summer transfer window approaching, clarity is expected in the coming weeks. Barcelona must decide whether to activate the purchase option at the agreed price, while Manchester United appears prepared to hold firm.

For Rashford, the coming months could define the next phase of his career — whether that means a permanent chapter in Spain or an unexpected return to the Premier League.
